The Midnight Sons Chorus is a fraternity of
dedicated singers, committed to excellence
in A Cappella singing.

Our Vision
The Midnight Sons Chorus is the premiere men's chorus in Alaska.
We foster an environment which expands and promotes professional
and technical vocal abilities.

The chorus was originally chartered in 1967 and is a men's a cappella choral group
that sings 4-part harmony in the "barbershop style." We sing various types of music
from Broadway to Americana to Rock and Roll, to just about any music that rings chords!
Our membership includesyoung men of high school and college age, mid-lifers and men
in their golden years. Our only requirement is that members enjoy quality a cappella
singing and sharing their voices with others throughout our community.

What is Barbershop A Cappella Harmony?
Barbershop harmony is a style of unaccompanied singing in which three voices
harmonize to amelody. The voice parts are called tenor, lead, baritone and bass. The
Lead usually sings the melody. The tenor harmonizes above the melody. The Bass sings
the lowest harmonizing notes and the Baritone provides in between notes, either above or
below the Lead, completing thechords that give Barbershop it’s distinctive, four part
sound. Barbershop harmony is music.It's music in a very pure form created with nothing
but human voices coming together to createa rich and satisfying texture that is pleasing
to the ears and invigorating to the soul. Whether you're an experienced musician or a
brand new musician, barbershop levels the playing fieldand allows you to find your voice
and be a part of creating something that is greater than thesum of its parts.

Barbershop harmony is fraternity.
Men from all over the world and from all walks of life and all ages can come together and
share in this truly American art form and find common ground through self expression in
song.The friendships forged through barbershop harmony bridge gaps that no other hobby
is capableof doing, and for many devotees, barbershop is far more than a hobby. It's a
passion.

Barbershop harmony is a way of life.
Perfecting this musical art form takes commitment. When done well, our music reaches
audiences on a personal level. You will experience personal growth, build self-confidence
and create lasting memories as you work with others to perform for a variety of audiences,
from large concerts to intimate Singing Valentines. And the lessons learned in barbershop
last a lifetime.
