Board of Directors

President

Stan Herrera
After joining the Midnight Sons in 1999, it wasn’t long or a surprise that Stan Herrera became President for the chorus. Stan’s love for a cappella music is infectious and he’s the chorus catalyst to “git ‘er dun” – whether it’s leading a board meeting, coordinating events, setting up the room for practice or building backstage props for a chorus show. Unfortunately, Stan’s first term was cut short after an appointment by the Governor moved Stan and his wife to Juneau. Upon returning from Juneau and vowing never to be involved with politics again … Stan was elected President! Affectionately called “El Presidente” because of his Santa Fe, New Mexico roots, Stan sings lead with the chorus and his quartet “4 Wheel Drive”. You’ll find Stan most Tuesdays willing to share a song, a smile and a welcome handshake. Stan is even happy to cook and share the best Santa Fe green or red chili stew … although we suggest you bring your fire extinguisher! By day, Stan works as a Senior Project Manager for CTG

Vice President

Chuck Harris
Member of the Society since 1991. Sings bass, competed in Division and District contest as chorus and quartet member. Has served as Membership Vice-President, Music Vice-President, and President for three years Pages of Harmony, Spokane, WA. Currently Music Vice-President, Anchorage Midnight Sons Chorus.

Secretary

Dave Laymon
We’re convinced that Dave is related to Winnie the Pooh’s Eeyore.  But don’t let Dave’s “Lonely George” laid back style fool you.  He’s a creative graphics genius, an excellent tenor and sings with his quartet, Higher Ground.  You’ll find Dave’s talented signature all over our Midnight Sons’ advertising and marketing materials including our weekly newsletter.  With Dave’s abilities we boast the best looking Board Meeting minutes in Alaska!   Dave’s not the only tenor in the family.  His wife, Kathy, is the outstanding tenor for the ever popular, Back Beat Street – a women’s barbershop quartet.

Public Relations

Steve Stripling
A self-proclaimed “Acappella Junky” and a member since 1990, Steve has held a number of Board positions, written chorus shows and sings with a quartet –The Frozen Pipes who have competed at the District level and even opened UAA’s A Capella Festivella 2001.  Steve also sang with -Batteries Not Included- a non-barbershop a cappella group, has performed at Cyrano’s Eccentric Theater and plays guitar.  He is also on the Anchorage Community Theater board.  By day, Steve has his own advertising agency and can be heard on a number of weekly radio shows.

VP Membership

Chip Fogle
This member of the board was born a barbershopper! With his mother in Sweet Adelines and Grandfather in Barbershop as well, its no wonder why he has a love for singing barbershop. He started barbershop when he was 15 and with a brief hiatus in his 20's to join the Army. After being stationed in Alaska, he found a home with the Midnight Sons where he continues to enjoy ringing chords.

Treasurer

Wally Jenkins
I've been singing baritone in the chorus for about 4 years, although often I'm just a part time member because of my family responsibilities. I've been an accountant for about 14 years with my time about evenly divided between not for profits, and hospitality/tourism. Besides singing with the chorus I'm involved in the dance community in Anchorage, I serve in a Spanish speaking congregation for the LDS church, and I occasionally play rhythm guitar at Irish music sessions around town. I'm also an avid reader and spend as much time outside and in the mountains or on the trails in and around Anchorage as I can, including often biking and skiing to and from work.

Show Chairman

Ed Koontz
An original charter member with the Midnight Sons Chorus (1967) and hailing over 50+ years in this hobby, Ed is the consummate barbershopper.  In fact, Ed has sung and forgotten more music than any of our other members collectively!  You’ll find Ed and his quartet, Prince William Sound, each Tuesday practicing before leading the charge on the risers for the chorus.  Plus, after practice, you’ll find Ed and PWS sampling local micro-brews and ringing chords at local Alaskan pubs!  Ed’s our hero!
